The Caldwell Housing Authority (CHA) is low-income housing project intended to provide housing specifically to farm labor families.  However, CHA is allowed to rent to non-farm families as long as farm labor families receive priority. The following are the eligibility requirements and disqualifiers:
 

Requirements:

  1. Show proof of legal residency or legal resident alien status

  2. Be low income

  3. Complete an official application

  4. Show ability to pay monthly rent and utilities

  5. Be able to pay security deposit and 1st month rent

 

Disqualifiers:

  1. Court ordered evictions within the last 3 years

  2. The use, sale, distribution, possession, or manufacturing of a controlled substance with 7 years

  3. Violent crimes against persons, including but not limited to, domestic violence, injury to a child, or battery within 10 years

  4. Any sex offense is a lifetime ban

  5. Any property crime within the last 7 years

  6. Previous eviction from CHA

  7. Lack of adequate rental history

  8. Lack of reliable employment sufficient to pay rent

 

CHA completes background check on all applicants and household members over the age of 18.
